Well, I hoped to play a lot more games this weekend then I did. I have a sort of a back log of games and hoped to catch up. I’ll go ahead and note, that I am NOT your typical gammer. For one, I suck. Really. But I DO have fun and that is what counts. And typically, I’ll play one, maybe 2 games a year. Because I’m slow, I like to play RPGs and I like to pull every once of fun out of a game that I can.
This weekend I finished up Dead Rising 2. And by finished, I mean, got annoyed and quit. I never played Dead Rising, but I’d seen it and it looked fun. And I have a special place in my heart for zombie games (Left 4 dead is on my “all time favorites” list). So I expected it a lot from Dead Rising. Mostly, I expected fun. And I tried, but I just couldn’t find it. The story line wasn’t compelling to me at all. The idea of making weapons SEEMED really cool in theory, but in play was, annoying, not-intuitive and I was too rushed to really get that “Ah-HA!” moment of discovery. I struggled with the interface. I’m sad, because I WANTED to like it, but it just wasn’t fun.
I also played “Hoard” an arcade style Steam Game. You play as a dragon and fly around collecting gold and kidnapping princesses. This game is win. It’s easy enough to be fun in the first 5 minutes. The graphics are charming. You can be a Pink Dragon. The music is catchy and fun in a mary-go-round kind of a way. Each “match” is only about 10 min (it’s a timed thing) so it’s easy to play “one quick game” even while I was making dinner and dealing with kids.
I also started on Dragon Age Origins. The character creation is great…once I’ve played some more I’ll write more about it in depth.
Also on board for the summer:
- Bioshock 2
- LA Noir
- Lego Pirates of the Caribbean
